Ovulation calendar from Folio®

Are you planning to have a baby? And do you want to become pregnant as quickly as possible? If so, this ovulation calendar will help you to determine when fertilization is most likely to occur.

Each month, an egg cell grows in one of the ovaries, detaches itself from this and waits to be fertilized on its way through the fallopian tube. At the same time, the uterus prepares itself for receiving the fertilized egg and for implanting it into the uterine lining, which has thickened for this process. Pregnancy can begin...

If fertilization does not take place, the egg and part of the thickened uterine lining is shed with the onset of menstrual bleeding.

This process is subject to a more or less strict cycle, and this is used for generating the ovulation calendar.

Calculate your ovulation and fertile days

Here you can calculate your fertile days quickly and easily: Simply use the fields above to enter the first day of your last period and the average length of your cycle. The length of the cycle is calculated from the first day of your period to the last last day prior to commencement of the following period.

The calendar will then show you on which days you are fertile and when ovulation will take place. In this way, you can find out when you are most likely to become pregnant during the coming month.

Please note: The ovulation calendar is intended to provide an indication of your fertile days in order to become pregnant in a targeted way. It in no way provides a reliable form of contraception!

Ovulation: Cycle fluctuations

The female cycle takes an average of 28 days. This can vary, however – cycle lengths of between 21 and 35 days are considered completely normal and should not be a cause for alarm.
The more regular the menstrual cycle is, the greater the chance of achieving successful fertilization.

With our ovulation calendar, individual cycle lengths are taken into account. For this reason, you also need to enter your personal average cycle length.

How does the ovulation calendar actually work?

With the ovulation calendar, the fertile days during the course of a menstrual cycle are calculated in order to determine the day of ovulation. Using an average cycle of 28 days as a starting point, ovulation begins with the first day of your period. In the middle of the cycle, i.e. on the 14th day, ovulation occurs: The egg is released from the ovary into the fallopian tube.

If a woman has a somewhat longer cycle, the day of ovulation is later. Correspondingly, during a shorter cycle, it occurs earlier.

Calculating ovulation – When is the best time for sex?

The likelihood of becoming pregnant is greatest shortly before ovulation. The reason for this is that the sperm cells can survive for around 2 to 3 days in the woman's vagina, uterus and fallopian tubes. Under optimum conditions, i.e. during the fertile days, the sperm cells can even survive for up to 5 days. However, the released egg can only be fertilized within 12 to 24 hours.

If sexual intercourse takes place exactly on the day of ovulation, ovulation may have taken place in the morning and by the evening the egg no longer allows any sperm to penetrate. However, if sperm cells enter the woman's body 1 to 2 days prior to ovulation, they can come into contact with the egg in top form.

Ovulation: Boy or girl?

It is not a myth: To a certain extent you can actually influence whether a boy or a girl is conceived. How does that work?

Gender is determined by the sex chromosomes. The egg cell of the mother always contains an X-chromosome; the sperm cells carry an X- or a Y-chromosome. At the moment of conception, the combination of chromosomes decides which gender the child will have:

XX wil produce a girl, XY a boy.

It is a fact that the X-sperm is larger, stronger and slower than the Y-sperm, which is smaller, faster and has a shorter lifespan.

Girl: If sexual intercourse takes place 3 to 4 days prior to the calcuated day of ovulation, the longer living female sperm cells have a greater chance of fertilizing the egg.

Boy: Shortly before ovulation, the faster male sperm cells are more likely to reach the egg first.
