Birth centres

Birth centres are managed by midwives who place value on caring for women and couples during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. In most birth centres, you give birth to your child on an outpatient basis. The midwives assist women in experiencing the birth of their child in an informed, independent and self-determined way.

By opting for a birth centre, you will not have the medical facilities of a hospital on hand but you will have a natural form of birth in an atmosphere that is relaxed and comfortable.

Due to alternative ways of giving birth and birthing aids which are offered as standard at most birth centres, women often experience less pain when bringing their baby into the world.
